Denver School Information
Public School Enrollment
January is the time to enroll your child for the 2010-2011 school year! Several public and private schools in Denver are offering Open Houses or tours at this time.
Denver Public Schools Choice Program
Thanks to the DPS Choice program, students can enroll in any school within the district regardless of where they live. If they do not currently live in the school zone of choice, they must complete a DPS Choice application and submit it to that school. Although not guaranteed, this is the best chance to secure a seat. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of slots available, the school will conduct a lottery for those slots.
Contact schools directly for application deadlines.
Magnet Schools
Magnet schools within DPS emphasize a particular style of learning. Some magnets are located within a school; some are the school. Applications should be made to the school of choice. Deadlines are specific to the school and tend to be earlier than the Choice program.
Highly Gifted Magnet Schools
For students with extraordinary academic needs and potential, the district offers a series of gifted and talented programs for K-8th grades. Applications need to be made with the specific school and deadlines tend to be earlier than the Choice Program. Contact the Gifted and Talented Education Department at 720-423-8272
Charter Schools
Denver Public Schools offers Charter schools and other schools like the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning as well as online programs. Though offered by DPS, there is no public transportation.
Many of Denver’s Private Schools host Open Houses throughout the year, as well.
